Within one week, the CFTC issued two awards to whistleblowers, one in the amount of $30M and another in the amount of $70,000.  Although the orders are fairly sparse, they provide some important clues as to how the CFTC determines the amount of a CFTC whistleblower award (the percentage of the monetary sanctions collected in the covered judicial or administrative action that the CFTC awards the whistleblower).

The U.S. Commodity Futures Exchange Commission has awarded a whistleblower bounty to a foreign resident for the first time, the agency announced on Monday, days after handing out its largest award to date.

The Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) today announced an award of over $70,000 to a whistleblower who significantly contributed to an ongoing CFTC investigation and led the CFTC to a successful settlement.  The award is the first made by the CFTC’s Whistleblower Program to a whistleblower living in a foreign country and the sixth award to a whistleblower who provided valuable information about violations of the Commodity Exchange Act (CEA).

The Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) yesterday announced its largest whistleblower award to-date in a commodity fraud case.  According to the Commission, it issued “an award of approximately $30 million to a whistleblower who voluntarily provided key original information that led to a successful enforcement action”
